December is a month of giving and receiving. The older we get, giving seems to bring more joy than receiving. At Tower Homes, this was especially true as the President of Tower Homes Development, Price Hightower, decided to give BIG TIME!
The morning of the office Christmas Party all of the Tower Homes employees gathered for some coffee and donuts. After casual talk about the news in the newly built communities in the greater Birmingham area, and what everyone is getting or buying for Christmas, Clint Johnston, Vice President of Tower Homes, announced the plan for the morning. We all expected to do something fun, but we didn’t know any details.
The morning of the office Christmas Party all of the Tower Homes employees gathered for some coffee and donuts. After casual talk about the latest news in and around our new home communities in the greater Birmingham area, and what everyone is getting or buying for Christmas, Clint Johnston, Vice President of Tower Homes, announced the plan for the morning. We all expected to do something fun, but we didn’t know any details.
Clint had us split into teams of 3 people. He then gave us envelopes with the names of children with various needs and wishes along with a generous dollar amount to spend on each child. The names were given to us by The Restoration Academy, which offers, Christ-centered education to children from underprivileged families and serves families around Birmingham, AL.
We all were excited and read through the list of the names and wish items on the list. Our team had the names of four brothers ages 6 through 16. The parents wrote gift wishes for their children. The wishes were mostly practical; clothes, school supplies, items for children’s room, and some toys. We only had 2.5 hours to go on the “shopping spree”, and we had to plan a budget to get the most out of the money. Another challenge was to select the presents equally, so the siblings would feel the gifts were equally distributed.
Our team decided to head to a shopping mall located near one of Tower Homes Communities, Rosser Farms. We had fun running around the stores and picking up the items for “our kids”. This was definitely a fun team-building experience! When we had spent every penny of our budget, we loaded the trunk full with bags of presents. We then drove back to the Tower Homes office, feeling exhausted, but filled with the unspoken joy of giving to someone in need. We also felt proud to be a part of the Tower Homes Family and to work for a company which cares about giving back to Birmingham’s communities.
After we got back to the office, we gathered all the presents from all the other teams and got together for an amazing cookout, which was prepared by Tower Home’s friend and lumber supplier Doug Delong from 84 Lumber. All teams did a great job on selecting their gifts, and we all had a lot of stories to share from our shopping experiences. However, what mattered the most about The Tower Homes Christmas Party, was that we were able to share the blessings of Tower Homes with the less fortunate in the Birmingham area.
